Am I a Candidate for Veneers?

If you’re avoiding looking in the mirror or refusing to smile for photos, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there is a relatively easy way to fix an imperfect but functional smile.

Unhappy with how your teeth look when you smile? Millions of Americans wish their smile was whiter, brighter, more even, less gummy, or that the incisor that sits a little funny was straighter. Great news: you don’t need prolonged, expensive full mouth restoration to get a happy, healthy, and aesthetically gorgeous smile.

In New York City, New York, at the Cosmetic and Implant Dental Studio by Dr. Dorian Cucereanu, DDS, we offer porcelain veneers along with other cosmetic dentistry options to give your grin that extra something special and make you feel self-confident.

Dental veneer basic

Dental veneers are extremely thin shells made of porcelain that look just like the teeth you always wish you had. These are created just for you based on a mold of your mouth, after a discussion about what your ideal smile would look like.

We remove a similarly wafer-thin layer of enamel from the fronts of your teeth, and bond the fabricated custom porcelain veneers in place. The entire process usually takes two visits to our office, and then you’re done.

We use porcelain because it is super-strong, durable, and stain-resistant, and has the look, feel, and pearly shine of natural tooth enamel. Your veneers can last 10-15 years, depending on how well you take care of them, your genetics, and the overall health of your teeth.

Good candidates for veneers

Ideally, your teeth are healthy and functional. If you have major dental issues, need a root canal, or have gum disease (periodontitis), you’ll want to get your mouth healthy before getting veneers.

Veneers can get rid of a whole host of different problems that are aesthetic in nature. You could be a great candidate for veneers if you suffer from any of the following:

Stained teeth

Stained teeth can often be fixed with tooth whitening, but not always. If you have stubborn stains and just want a nice, white, stain-resistant smile, porcelain veneers could be perfect for you.

Worn down teeth

Maybe your teeth are worn down from years of chewing pencils or grinding your teeth at night. No worries: porcelain veneers can fix all of that easily, giving you an even edge without worn spots or grooves.

Gapped, crooked, or misaligned teeth

Porcelain veneers can straighten close gaps and cover over slight misalignment or crooked teeth for an even smile that looks Hollywood-ready.

Cracked or chipped teeth

As long as the tooth is stable and not in danger of cracking further or decaying, porcelain veneers can be used to hide lines from hairline cracks from view and give you a picture-perfect grin.
